HOW THIS FIELD GUIDE IS BUILT

Good records.
Clear sources.

A directory for people interested in building aircraft, and a place to keep older kit designs discoverable.

What is included

This initial edition lists manufacturers, historical suppliers and named kit-aircraft models. It is a researched starting collection, not an exhaustive worldwide census. Configuration variants may have separate records where the source names them separately. Manufacturer names include historical names and aliases where helpful.

Coverage is limited to aircraft documented as having a kit offering. We exclude plans-only designs when no kit evidence is established, as well as factory-built-only aircraft. Some listed designs also have plans or factory-built options.

Reading the status labels

  • Current listing: an official manufacturer site advertises the aircraft as a kit. A listing is not a stock, operational-capacity or delivery check.
  • Archived design: the cited source identifies retirement, replacement by a successor or non-production status. Parts and support may remain available.
  • Availability unconfirmed: model/kit evidence exists, but current complete-kit availability is not established. An older date alone does not mean discontinued.
  • In development: design work or staged kit releases are still in progress.

Research and attribution

Records were reviewed on October 28, 2026. Each model page links to its evidence: manufacturer product and history pages, the FAA’s February 9, 2024 kit listing, EAA historical entries or NTSB records. Source dates and limited availability evidence are described on the model pages where relevant.

The FAA list records evaluations against the amateur-built major-portion requirement. It is not comprehensive and it does not certify or approve kits or manufacturers. See the FAA’s explanation.

Images and materials

There are no aircraft photographs, third-party logos, copied brochures or hosted manufacturer manuals in this edition. The conceptual aircraft drawings are original site graphics and do not depict a specific model or provide construction information. Source documents stay on their publishers’ websites.

An independent project

KitPlanes by TheDave.site is independent of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), KITPLANES magazine and the manufacturers listed here. Aircraft and company names identify the relevant records; they do not imply endorsement.

Specifications and comparisons

Every aircraft page uses the same measurement fields. Unknown values are not zero. Each researched engine/weight configuration is kept separate. Source-unit text, manufacturer conditions and conflicting claims are preserved. Numeric filters require a single configuration to satisfy all bounds; published ranges must fit in full. Ground roll and unspecified obstacle-distance figures are separate fields. Converted units may be rounded.

Privacy

The site has no accounts, tracking analytics, advertising scripts, external fonts or embedded third-party media. Search and filters run in your browser. Standard web-server access logs may record requests to this website. Following a source link opens that publisher’s website, which has its own policies.

The next chapters

Our current release includes shared specification/performance tables and configuration-specific manufacturer figures for an initial set of models. A separate research index preserves 1,286 public listing names from all 52 KITPLANES listing pages; no aircraft detail pages were opened. That guide includes plans-built designs and rotorcraft, so these are discovery records awaiting independent manufacturer, type, kit-eligibility and availability checks. A researched EAA chapter directory and working model forums remain future work.
